翻译处理如下:
1) Before he left , how hard she spun ,
How diligently wove ; in dreadEre he return long years might run ！
2) Before his departure , were the close , fine stitches set ,
Lest haply his return be long delayed.
3) Carefully she sews and thoroughly she mends ,
Dreading the delays that will keep him late from home.
显然原诗中的两组叠声词“密密缝”,“迟迟归”在译诗中并未翻译出来。然而母亲的善良、慈祥和无尽牵挂正是通过这两组叠声词鲜明而又含蓄地得以表达,具有强烈的画面效果。舍弃了这组叠声词,从某种意义上讲,就舍弃了原诗的节奏,舍弃了原诗的诗情画意,削弱了原诗的感染力。这实在是无可奈何的舍弃,因为
英语中找不到这种完美的对应。
